Weekly therapy sessions follow a format that can take time. Though this is meaningful and helpful, many may feel restricted by outside responsibilities, schedules, or a multitude of other conflicts that hinder one's ability to participate in weekly sessions.
In an EMDR Therapy Intensive, this is not the case. You have the time and space to journey down deeper and feel better faster. You get to remove all the pressure to try to get everything done with very limited time.
An EMDR Therapy Intensive can be a catalyst to move you towards the healing that you are longing for. It can also set other areas of growth and self-awareness in motion and can be an adjunct service to what you are already doing.
Either way, doing an EMDR Therapy Intensive is a powerful way to accelerate the healing process because it can provide the results that usually take months or even years of individual weekly sessions in just a few days.
Therapy Intensives are a powerful and flexible approach for people who want to make significant progress in a shorter period of time. The extended sessions allow clients to dive deeper into their trauma or emotional challenges without the typical pacing of weekly sessions. This intensive format can be particularly helpful for those with busy schedules or for those who feel they need a concentrated therapeutic experience to address specific goals or issues. My approach utilizes eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) plus NeuroSomatic intelligence (NSI) to promote healing growth and clarity.
Key Benefits to Intensives:
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to the care you will receive. Each client is unique and requires a different amount of time and focus. Additionally, Intensives are not for everyone, and it is necessary that consideration is given to a potential client's readiness for such intensive work. These areas will be thoroughly discussed in the planning/intake process before we schedule your appointment.
Prior to the EMDR Intensive, we meet for a Pre-Intensive Interview to determine the goal of the intensive time. We will look at what your life looks like now (your support system, stressors, ways you cope, and places that you want relief, growth, or to take a big step forward).
During this initial interview, I will assess your readiness for an intensive. The following are some factors that will be considered:
In some cases, we may need to meet individually for a few weeks prior to the intensive to focus on emotional management and stability.
During the EMDR Intensive we do 3 things:
1) Desensitize the painful experiences in your life so they hurt less.
2) Resolve triggers that lead to unpleasant responses, reactions, and behaviors.
3) Help the pleasant experiences feel even better.
We do this with EMDR through Resource Intensification, Reprocessing, and Resourcing activities like grounding, somatic experiencing, guided meditation, sand tray, music, or creative arts - incorporating the bilateral stimulation used in EMDR.
Depending on where you are in your journey, we may spend time on your earliest relationships in life (i.e., attachment). For others, the focus is more future oriented. This process can be very personal and customized to you.
After the EMDR Intensive, we meet for a Post-Intensive Interview to reflect on the elements that were most meaningful to you and how you want to infuse them into your life moving forward. I emphasize sharing insights with the important people in your life, so they can partner with you and celebrate your progress!
Just like other major medical procedures such as surgery, EMDR Therapy Intensives are a financial investment in you and your health. Although you will be investing a larger amount upfront, you will have a fixed cost (that is typically less money in the long run) to work with, rather than the unknown expense of ongoing weekly therapy. With Therapy Intensives not only do you save time, but you save money as well.
During the initial intake, we will determine you intensive need. Once that is decided, you will receive a statement with the exact cost of the intensive.
